Hotel Adds Suites, Meeting Space to Re-Open as New Marriott Brand

MACON (August 23, 2001) - The Fairfield Inn by Marriott at I-75 in Macon recently opened  9 suites and officially converted the hotel to a Fairfield Inn and Suites, the newest brand in the Marriott family of hotels.  Management also renovated space just off the lobby to create over 1,200 square feet of meeting space for use by hotel guests and members of the community.  Owned and operated by Atlanta-based Day Hospitality Group, the three-story, 78-room hotel opened in July 1999 at 4035 Sheraton Road, off Arkwright Road at I-75 in north Macon.  Drew Salapka serves as General Manager.

Meeting space and suites are both sought-after amenities in this area, said Mr. Salapka.  In response to demand, we have updated our hotel floor plan to provide suites and a top-notch meeting facility that will set our hotel apart.  We look forward to exceeding our guests expectations with spectacular service.

After two years of success in the market, the hotel converts to a Fairfield Inn & Suites.  The designation reflects changes that include design, furniture, decoration and the renovation and expansion of some conventional rooms to suites. The hotels dedicated staff remains in place.

The additions will meet a definite need in the market, said General Manager Drew Salapka.  Expanded amenities include desktop Internet access, 5-disc compact disc players, video cassette players, 32 televisions, microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, and hair dryers.  Hotel renovations include new carpet and wall coverings in the public areas, new furniture in the lobby and breakfast area, and an expanded exercise room.

The hotel also features an outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool spa, a fitness room, facsimile and copy service, free local phone calls and expanded 63-channel cable TV.  A complimentary continental breakfast is available each morning in the breakfast room off the lobby. The public areas feature living-room ambiance complete with wingback chairs, a dual-sided fireplace and fresh-baked cookies daily.

The Fairfield Inn brand was launched in 1987, and is a leader in the select-service lodging segment. There are currently over 425 Fairfield Inn hotels located throughout the United States.  Because of market demand, Fairfield Inn and Suites emerged in late fall 2000.
