ORLANDO, Fla., - August 23, 2001 - Marriott
Vacation Club International (MVCI), the Vacation Ownership division of
Marriott International Inc. (NYSE:MAR), announced today the development
of its first resort in Arizona, Marriott’s Canyon Villas at Desert Ridge.
MVCI will begin construction Spring 2002 on the 252-villa (proposed) Vacation
Ownership resort located in Phoenix, Ariz. Targeted to open in July 2003,
the 22-acre resort is adjacent to an 18-hole Nick Faldo-designed golf course
and the 18-hole Wildfire Golf Club course designed by Arnold Palmer (soon
to be 36 holes in January 2002).
| Located within minutes of Scottsdale,
Desert Ridge is a 5,700-acre master planned community. This area will boast
the 950-room Desert Ridge Marriott Resort & Spa (proposed opening 2002),
MVCI Vacation Ownership villas, two championship golf courses, biking and
walking trails, tennis facilities, business park and various retail and
community amenities including a movie theatre, dining and shopping.

The resort will feature two-bedroom (1,260 square feet) villas offering
mountain and golf views. Each villa will provide a master suite with a
deep soaking tub, fully-equipped kitchen, living and dining areas, two

Launches New Fractional Ownership Brand
ORLANDO, Fla., July 16, 2001 - Marriott Vacation Club
International unveiled a new brand of fractional ownership resorts -- Marriott
Grand Residence Club. The brand combines the advantages of second
home ownership with the services and amenities of a fine resort, as well
as the benefits of exchange to worldwide destinations.
"Marriott Grand Residence Club is a great complement to
our already diverse collection of Vacation Ownership brands," said Stephen
P. Weisz, president, Marriott Vacation Club International. "Our objective
is to offer consumers a variety of vacation experiences to best suit their
needs."
Located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., the first resort
-- Marriott Grand Residence Club, Lake Tahoe (formerly, Grand Summit Resort
Hotel) -- was acquired by MVCI (undeveloped) from American Skiing Company
(NYSE: SKI). The 199-villa, quarter ownership property is adjacent
to the Heavenly Ski Resort and the MVCI project, Marriott's Timber Lodge.
Both resorts are targeted to open in November 2002.
The ownership structure for the resort gives owners one
week every 28 days, based on a rotation calendar. Additionally, each
owner gains a consecutive two-week period once every fourth year.

Club, Lake Tahoe ownership prices for studio, one-, two-
and three-bedroom units, as well as penthouses, currently range in price
from $83,900 to $550,000 per interest. |

Ridge will begin October 2001 with prices ranging from $13,400 to $22,300
per week of ownership.
