Form Strategic Alliance 

 
March 23, 2001 - Denver, Colorado; Minneapolis, Minnesota - Hospitality Real Estate Counselors (�HREC�) and Conventions, Sports and Leisure (�CS&L�) have formed a strategic alliance to better serve the needs of the growing public assembly facilities industry.  Both companies are individually leading consulting firms respectively to the lodging and convention center businesses.  The synergism created from the strategic alliance will provide the public facilities industry with unparalleled in-depth and comprehensive resources for examining both the hotel and public facilities components of a project.

�Hotels are often a necessary component of a successful convention center project, enabling the public facility to maximize its economic potential,� states Michael Cahill, president of HREC.  
 

�Working closely with HREC, we will be able to address the full spectrum of client needs from convention center development and operations through studying and securing the necessary hotel inventory�, notes John Kaatz, director of convention industry services for CS&L.

As a team, HREC and CS&L have recently worked on projects including the expansion of the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, a proposed convention center and hotel in Pensacola, Florida and other similar public assembly projects in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, South San Francisco, California and Lansing, Michigan.

About John Kaatz
John Kaatz is a Vice President with CSL International. Mr. Kaatz�s experience includes in-depth analyses for over 200 convention / conference and other sports, entertainment and leisure industry projects. The results of these studies have been have been used to assist public and private sector entities in determining project market and financial feasibility, economic impacts, appropriate marketing focus and management structure, and in pursuing and securing project financing. 

As the pressure to maximize facility operating revenues has increased throughout the industry, John has also assisted facility management in identifying and quantifying potential sources of revenue enhancement. 

Prior to joining CSL, John was the Director of Coopers & Lybrand�s Sports, Entertainment and Leisure Consulting Group. 

Some of the specific projects John has directed or has been actively involved with include Anaheim Convention Center, Colorado Convention Center, Bartlesville Convention Center, Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Northern Kentucky Convention Center, Mexico City Convention Center, Woodstock Convention Center and Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

John holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  John is a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers.
