 Department of Hotel and Tourism Management of 
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Bringing 
Industry Expertise to the Classroom

 
March 6, 2001 - Mrs Amy Chan, former Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourist Association, has recently been appointed to the position of Honorary Professor in the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for a two-year term.  With this appointment, Mrs Chan will provide assistance and advice to this Department in the area of executive development programs.  Mrs Chan will also deliver occasional guest lectures to share her extensive industry experience with our students.

of appointment for Honorary Professorship 
at the Department of Hotel and Tourism Management of the Hong Kong 
Polytechnic University.

The Department of Hotel and Tourism Management is exploring different ways to bring in industry expertise to the classroom.  "Started this semester, our Department has initiated the 'Professor for a Day Programme' in which industry leaders and practitioners are invited as guest speakers to share their valuable experience and expertise with students.  This initiative is very well-received by both the industry and our students," said Prof. Kaye Chon, Chair Professor and Head of Department.
 

The speaker invited to inaugurate the Programme was Ms Jo Lamb, Director of Disney University.  "Students were excited to learn about Disney's training and development strategies in coping with the opening of the new theme park in 2005," said Prof. Chon.  "A number of other industry guest speakers have been scheduled to talk about their area of expertise in different classes," added Prof. Chon.

In addition, the Department has also appointed Mr Manual Woo, former Executive Director of the Hong Kong Hotel Association, as Senior Advisor.  In this capacity, Mr Woo will be advising the Department in refining the programmes to meet the needs of the fast-changing hospitality and tourism industries.
