The Snowmass Village Resort Association Appoints
Jim France as President and Brett Huske as SVP
December 15, 2000, Snowmass Village, Colo -  The Snowmass Village Resort Association (SVRA) is proud to announce the additions of Jim France as president and Brett Huske as senior vice president to the organization. The SVRA eagerly welcomes the new leadership and new direction these industry veterans want to pursue, both within the organization and the community.

After a long and careful search, Snowmass Village Resort Association (SVRA) has named industry veteran Jim France to serve as the president of this 33-year old organization.  SVRA eagerly welcomes the new leadership and new direction he brings, both to the organization and the community.

Effective December 1, 2000, France took over the position previously held by Terry Hunt, who resigned earlier in the year.  Jim France comes to SVRA from The Grove Park Inn Resort in North Carolina, a four-star, four-diamond resort where he served as CEO, general manager and vice president 1991 1999.  While there, he implemented processes and procedures that grew occupancy from 64 percent in 1991 to 81 percent in 1999, while simultaneously lowering operating costs.

Throughout his tenure, The Grove Park Inn Resort consistently won The Gold Key Award, Pinnacle Award and Southern Living¹s Best Hotel and Best Restaurant awards.  France was also accorded such awards as The General Manager of the Year and Most Valuable Volunteer Award for North Carolina from AH&MA and President Bush.

I am truly excited to work with SVRA, said France.  Combining forces with the association members as well as our newly named Senior Vice President Brett Huske will make overcoming the existing challenges a positive experience.  I am definitely looking toward the future of this organization and all of its potential opportunities.

Before joining The Grove Park Inn, France served as managing director for CPS Hotel Management Services, Inc.  (1986 1991) and as general manager at The Charles Hotel at Harvard Square (1983 1986).  France has recently relocated to Meadow Ranch, and his wife, Melanie, will soon be joining him.  He has one son, Charles, and two stepsons, Andrew and Brant, who will be remaining in North Carolina to attend school.

Brett Huske joins SVRA President Jim France in defining and guiding the association¹s future goals.

My style has always been a hands-on approach.  I understand the need to spend time with everyone to gain trust and loyalty, said Huske.  When all parties involved see a well-organized plan, and their role in it, differing opinions and strong personalities can work together in harmony to achieve a common goal.

With more than 20 years of experience in the travel, tourism and meetings industries, Brett joins SVRA most recently from Ocean Key Resort in Florida, where he was general manager.  He was hired at Ocean Key to upgrade qualities of service and accommodations at the resort, and implemented strategies that resulted in a $400,000 increase over 1999 room revenues in the first seven months of 2000.  Before Ocean Key Resort, Huske owned his own management, marketing and consulting company, Huske & Associates (1996 2000).  His clients in the adventure travel, golf and E-Commerce industries include Molokai Ranch Hawaii, a 60,000 acre adventure destination on the island of Molokai, Hawaii; Sports Pro Hawaii, a sports marketing company; and Lexington Services, a global distribution company providing Internet and GDS hotel reservation systems.  He also served as general manager (1989 1996) and director of sales and marketing (1985 1989) at Kapalua Bay Hotel & Villas, Maui, Hawaii, and as the associate director of sales, Hyatt Regency Maui (1984 - 1985).

Huske lives in Carbondale with his wife, Katherine and son Taylor.  He enjoys boating, golfing, biking, running, swimming, softball, hockey and chess.

The History of Snowmass Village Revealed
Winter 2000, Snowmass Village, Colo What was once acres of serene ranch land is now home to one of Colorados most beautiful mountain towns. Over the years Snowmass Village has grown into a world-class, year-round resort while still retaining its quiet, charming mountain atmosphere.  In the 1950s, William Janss, a former ski racer, flier, art collector and land developer, became interested in the land around the present-day town of Aspen.  Janss, along with his brother Ed, began buying property in what is now the Snowmass Village area and soon filed for an application for special use of the land with the Forest Service.

In 1964, the Forest Service granted Janss Investment Corporation a conditional use permit, and in 1965, gave the go-ahead for development of the land. Janss Investment Corp. then teamed up with Aspen Skiing Company to launch Snowmass-at-Aspen, and in 1966, brought Los Angeles-based American Cement Corporation on board as equal partners in the project.

Snowmass-at-Aspen officially opened on December 17, 1967 with five lodges, 120 condominium units, a dozen private homes, small conference center, movie theater, four heated swimming pools, 21 shops and six restaurants.  Snowmass-at-Aspen was touted as the most carefully planned ski resort in the world, with 50-miles of manicured trails, five chairlifts and a quaint village mall.  Today, Snowmass Village continues development and growth along the guidelines and vision established by Janss nearly 45 years ago. Snowmass Mountain offers 3, 010 acres of skiing with seven high speed quad-chairs, two triple-chairs, nine double-chairs and two platter pulls.

Today, Snowmass Village boasts 2,860 guest rooms, a modern 35,000 square-foot conference center, 87 shops and restaurants in the expanded Village Mall area, and 40 pools and hot tubs for guests to enjoy.

Snowmass Village has grown into a fully incorporated town with a population of
1,667. With convenient shuttle transportation, an annual snowfall of 300 inches and more winter and summer activities than you can imagine, Snowmass Village offers both residents and guests the best of both mountain and city life at once.
