 Tom Barker Named General Manager for The 
Northland Inn, Minneapolis, Minnesota

 
THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS, January 22, 2001�Benchmark Hospitality has announced the appointment of Tom Barker as General Manager for The Northland Inn, a 231-guest suites property located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.   Sam Haigh, Chief Operating Officer for Benchmark, made the announcement.

Tom Barker brings a wealth of experience in luxury hotel and conference center management to his new position, as well as a sales and marketing background within other industries.   He began his career in hospitality marketing as director of sales for the former Scanticon Princeton Conference Center Hotel located in Princeton, New Jersey.  He later became director of sales and marketing and subsequently general manager for the Omni Norfolk Hotel, located in Norfolk, Virginia.  Following this he was appointed general manager for the Omni Charlotte Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Additionally, Mr. Barker served for three years as general manager of the SouthPark Luxury Suites Hotel operated by Destination Hotels and Resorts.

Outside the hospitality industry, Tom Barker served as manager of national accounts for Silicon Energy, Inc., a leading US energy information management software developer.  He also served as director of hospitality markets for NewEnergy, Inc., a large US energy company, and as vice president marketing for Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, managing the marketing activities for 15 divisions.  Mr. Barker is a graduate of Purdue University.  He is past president for several governing boards of community and civic organizations.
