 Accor Planning to Expand the Budget Formule 1
Network to 20 hotels by 2002 in Australia;
Motel Formule 1 Brisbane Airport Opens

19 February 2001: As Brisbane Airport prepares for major expansion, the first Formule 1 motel in Queensland is today opening its doors. Comprising 93 rooms, the motel is located in the Airport Gateway estate in Hendra, near the race course and just 15 minutes from the city centre. The new budget motel will greatly enhance plans by Brisbane Airport chiefs to build a city within a city around the airport.

Formule 1 has revolutionised budget travel, providing a highly consistent and extremely affordable motel option that has become one of the great successes of the industry. Formule 1 complements Accors well-known hotel brands - Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, All Seasons and Ibis - and is one of fastest-growing brands for the worlds leading hotel group.

Formule 1 rooms are modern and designed,
with a big double bed and an upper bunk,
sink with mirror, television and remote control,
a corner table and an alarm clock. Rooms do
not include shower or WC.
Already there are more than 350 Formule 1 motels around the world in 11 countries. Providing a standardised product in key commercial areas and close to major transport arteries, Formule 1 guarantees comfortable accommodation with a maximum tariff of $59 per room. All rooms offer a queen-size bed and overhead bunk plus an en suite bathroom, providing accommodation for up to three people at the one low price.

The success of the initial Formule 1 motels in Sydney, with consistent occupancy rates of over 80%, has prompted Accor to introduce additional sites in Australias major cities and key regional centres. Following its Queensland debut in Brisbane, the motel group is planning additional Formule 1s in the sunshine state.

The launch of Motel Formule 1 Brisbane Airport comes at a time of important development around the area. Brisbane Airport Corporation plans to create a thriving commercial and industrial hub to complement its core aviation business.

In line with this expansion, Virgin recently decided to base its Australian operations in Brisbane and Qantas is setting up its Boeing 767 maintenance plant there. In addition, the imminent opening of the $220 million Airtrain connection to the city and Gold Coast will make Brisbane Airport and its surrounding suburbs an important economic hub.

The opening of the new Formule 1 greatly bolsters the airports expansion plans by providing an international hotel that can cater for increasing travel demand created in this vibrant new area.

This hotel is opening at a very exciting time in Brisbanes Airports development and we are pleased to be able to cater for the increasing demand for hotel accommodation in this important area, said Accors Managing Director for Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific, Mr Michael Issenberg.
Just seven years after its first Australian Formule 1 opened in Campbelltown
in Sydney, Accor has plans to expand the budget motel network to 20 hotels
by 2002.

Accor is the worlds largest hotel and tourism company, operating in a total of 140 countries, employing 130,000 people. The global group is a leader in travel, tourism and corporate services with two major international activities:
