The Caliente Tropics Resort Being Redeveloped from
a '60's Palm Springs California Motel
February 2001 - Caliente Tropics Resort, in Palm Springs, California, will reopen in March 2001 after a $2 million renovation.  Formerly known as the Tropics Hotel, the 90-room Resort is now operated by Townhouse Development.  Managing Partners Charlie Robles and Casey Jones have combined their 40 years in the hospitality industry which has included Four Seasons, Inter-Continental, the Kimpton Group, Joie de Vivre Hospitality, and major independent hotels, clubs and restaurants.

Originally built by developer Ken Kimes, the Resort is one of the last remaining examples of the classic Polynesian and Tiki themed resorts of the 60s, and is currently listed in the walking guide of the Palm Springs Historic Site Preservation Board.  The Resort was popular hangout for locals and celebrities as well.

With the help of the Palm Springs Modern Committee, the makeover has been top-to-bottom and restores the exterior to its original design, including completely rebuilt 65-foot pool, 12-person therapeutic jet spa, thatched-roof cabanas and tikis.  Palm Springs-based LODGECO is managing the all-new interior design and installation which features up-market, boutique furnishings with a Polynesian theme, including ceiling fans, dataports, automated refreshment centers by eRoom Systems, and movies by Instant Entertainment.

Resort services include extended complimentary continental breakfast, on-site restaurant for lunch and dinner, hosted cocktail hour, and turndown service.
