| By Adam Bell, The Charlotte Observer, N.C.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News Mar. 26--A resort hotel and indoor water park complex will open in Concord next year several months earlier than expected, Cabarrus County tourism officials said today. Great Wolf Resorts will open in mid-March 2009, said DeSales Wagster, chief executive officer of the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The $123 million, 409-room resort initially had been expected to debut in the spring or summer. But Wagster said the Wisconsin hotel chain told her this week it wanted to speed up development to take advantage of spring break schedules of area schools. Great Wolf is being built near Lowe's Motor Speedway and Concord Mills mall, behind BJ's wholesale club. The water park generally will be open only to hotel guests. Another four hotels also could open around Speedway Boulevard during that time next year, Wagster said.
