| WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Aug. 12, 1999 - For years, choosing
to stay in a cool, stylish boutique hotel often meant sacrificing the services
and amenities business and leisure travelers expected from full service
hotels.
The enthusiastic reception of the first three W properties, the W New York, W Atlanta and W San Francisco has demonstrated that there is a market for a fun, hip and exciting hotel collection that happily marries boutique hotel flair with the quality and functionality of larger brand hotels. “The launch of W Hotels represented an important evolution in the hotel industry, a unique union of style and substance,” said Barry Sternlicht, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. “W Hotels offer the hip personality and chic style of a boutique hotel, while providing the reliability and comprehensive business amenities and services that savvy travelers expect. We call this concept the ‘style’ hotel.” The W guestroom includes a fortune cookie at turndown; a W CD; a coffeemaker with W’s own blend of coffee; a lush terry-lined, cotton pique bathrobe; and custom-formulated Aveda bath products. Guestrooms will feature the latest in technology, including a 27” color TV equipped with ultra-fast Internet access (via an infrared keyboard). High- speed dataport connectivity will be available at speeds up to 100 times faster than conventional modems. Guests can also set up their own personal, secure E-mail addresses while staying at W Hotels. Each room also has two phones (one with dataport and speakerphone capabilities and another 900MHz cordless dual-line phone). Nearly any business equipment or service is available on request to W Hotel guests, and no fewer than 15% of the rooms are designated “W Home Office” offering special amenities geared specifically to the business traveler such as a combination printer/copier/fax/scanner. W Hotels has a service commitment that provides “whatever you want, whenever you want it.” Whether it be a laser printer at 2 a.m. or a bath filled with chocolate, just ask. W Hotels will eventually consist of 16 properties opening in major U.S.
cities through 2001.
